Rose-Zadow Instruments
I am Malcolm Rose-Zadow, a Canadian-Belgian Luthier, and I make forward-thinking acoustic archtop guitars and guitar making tools out of my shop in Brussels, Belgium, under the name Rose-Zadow Instruments.
I became obsessed with guitar-making around age 17, when I started building in the shop of my first mentor, the Harp-Guitar maker Benoit Meulle-Stef (BMS Guitars).
After that I studied Classical Guitar and historical instrument making and restoration for four years at ILSA (the International Lutherie School of Antwerp).
I also spent half a year in Gloucester, Massachusetts apprenticing under the legendary Ken Parker (inventor of the Parker Fly and Ken Parker Archtops) which expanded my understanding of machining, moulding, toolmaking, and the possibilities of the acoustic archtop guitar.
My instruments are a mix of old and new, as I am influenced by historical lutherie and the latest material sciences. In 2024, I was awarded the Prize of Innovation at the Paris Guitar Festival for my adjustable neck joint.
My goal is to bring the most acoustic possibilities out of archtop guitars, optimising them for playability, acoustic volume, clarity, power and bass response.
