Rob Goldberg Handmade Guitars

Rob Goldberg makes guitars, violins, cellos, mandolins, and other stringed instruments in a spruce forest near Haines, Alaska.  He made his first guitar in 1973.

“No matter what type of instrument I am making, my goal is to allow the soundboard to sing to its fullest potential.  My job is to find the balance between lightness and structure that will bring out the voice of the wood, while ensuring that the instrument holds together over its long life.

Also, every musician is unique, and deserves to have an instrument designed and built just for them.  I don’t have models.  Every instrument I make is a unique work of art, designed in collaboration with the musician to match their size and playing style.”

Having lived in the rainforest of Southeast Alaska for over 40 years, Rob has been able to acquire premium quality Sitka Spruce and Western Red Cedar logs. He processes them into soundboards that he makes available to other luthiers.
