I was given my first guitar at the age of 13, and eventually I needed it set up. I brought it to Doug Proper, who initiated my interest in the world of working on guitars, not just playing them. He advised me to look for a course if I was serious in my desire to learn, and as soon as I could I went to the Summit School of Guitar Building and Repair. I fell in love with working on guitars among the big leaf maple trees of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. I started with the month-long repair course, then returned completing the year-long guitar building Mastery Program, and once again as an apprentice in archtop guitar building with Sigmund Johannesson the owner of the school. Via both persistence and good luck, when I returned home I was allowed into Doug and Sharon Proper’s shop The Guitar Specialist as an apprentice in guitar repair. It was through their mentorship that both my guitar repair and building skills improved dramatically.
When an opportunity to work at PRS guitars came up, I moved to Maryland from New York hoping to establish myself and continue to improve my skills. I’ve become a well-respected luthier and guitar technician, having sold my guitars to artists all around the country, as well as repairing guitars and other stringed instruments. As an employee of PRS, I’ve worked on well over 20,000 guitars in the finish department. This involves all aspects of finish work, right up to buffing guitars to a perfect gloss. My calling is to build guitars. It gives me purpose to see the way musicians of completely different styles and character use my instruments as their tool to create music. What I make is made to fit your hands, perfectly playable, with the musical and physical qualities you imagine from your dream guitar.
